Samsung is one of the few manufacturers that offers smartphones at almost every budget. Whether you want to spend 100 or 1000 bucks, you’ll have something. This is one of the best things about Samsung.
Having said that, the lower-tier models specifically below A56 will start to show signs of a cheap phone, mainly because of the performance. But this year, Samsung has tried to rectify that problem with the Galaxy A17. It is one of the most affordable yet decently powered phones.
Should you just go and buy it right away? I don’t think that it is a good idea.
There are some things that you need to know about the new Galaxy A17. If you want to know about them, then stick around as I will be sharing exactly that in detail with you.
Samsung Galaxy A17: The Display
This is one of the most notable features of the Galaxy A17.
Starting with the specs first, it is a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display that clocks at 90Hz. Samsung’s AMOLED is considered one of the best displays out of all the OLED displays, and I can vouch for that.
This is a gorgeous display because it has vivid colors, and a 90Hz refresh rate helps make it super smooth.
If you love consuming content on your phone, then it is the best at this price range. I have personally binge-watched Breaking Bad (again) on this phone, and the experience was great. Part of the reason for that great experience goes to my high-speed Spectrum Internet. It offers top-notch internet speeds, a wide coverage area, and above all, 24/7 available, reliable, and bilingual Spectrum en español customer service. So, do check them out.
Apart from watching content, scrolling through social media is another good experience on this phone. Scrolling feels smooth, and again, the Super AMOLED display helps.
If display is one of the things that matters to you, then do check the Galaxy A17 out.
Samsung Galaxy A17: The Performance
This is one of the most significant improvements over the previous versions of the Galaxy A series phone.
Galaxy A17 will be the most powerful phone in the cheap category of Samsung phones. This year, A17 will be powered by the Exynos 1330 chipset. This Exynos runs on the 5nm architecture.
How does it actually perform in real life? Games are the best way to test a phone’s performance, so I did just that. I played COD Mobile, Clash of Clans, and more games on it to test its performance, and it worked just fine. It ran all of these games at medium settings. Apart from that, for regular usage, you will be satisfied because it works just like an upper midrange for that set of tasks.
Please note that this is not a phone for power users, and it might start to show signs of weak performance if you throw a lot at it. En palabras simples (in simple words), avoid this phone and get the Galaxy A56 if you fall under the category of power users.
Samsung Galaxy A17: The Cameras and the Battery
Let me start with the battery first: it is a 5000mAh battery that charges at a rate of 25W. On paper, it doesn’t look impressive, but actually, it is a full-day battery.
This is the same size battery as that of the Galaxy S25 Ultra, but it doesn’t have that much of big screen, high pixel density, and power-sucking processor of the Ultra. So, it lasts for a whole day, no matter how extensively you use it.
I am yet to kill this phone in a day. The other day, I was using it aggressively – turned on Google Maps, watched YouTube videos on it, live-streamed on Instagram, and there were a lot of things going on. At the end of the day, the battery that was left was 21%. If you use this phone normally, it can easily last for two days as well.
Now, let us turn our attention to the cameras: it has a triple camera setup at the back. The main shooter is 50MP with OIS, a 5MP ultrawide lens, and a 5MP macro lens. It isn’t anything impressive. It just does the job.
I have tried taking multiple photos and videos of it. The results? Generally, the photos from the main lens look nice. On the flip side, the ultrawide and macro lenses are not good. The photos didn’t have enough details, and all in all, they struggled to keep the balance.
As for the videos, the same story repeats itself here. The main lens makes great videos, but as soon as you move out of that lens, the video quality drastically decreases. Well, it is a cheap phone, so compromises had to be made. The bottom line is that you need to expect less from the Galaxy A17 when it comes to the camera.
Should you buy this phone (that’s the question of the day)? Yes, you can buy it, and in most cases, you will be satisfied with this phone.
